Giving in to the Beg

Just recently I was telling friends, as we were eating in our Sukkah, "We used all of our disciplining skills up on our children in order to make healthy, well adjusted kids (hopefully). But we had nothing left for Boaz (our dog). This is narrated as Boaz repeatedly stands up to lean his paws on the table and peer over it to see if there is anything he can snag.
Well behaved kids, poorly behaved dog. I'll take it. A guy only has so much energy? I may be deluding myself.
Why do we give in so easily to our pets? (They are soooo cute? Is that one reason?)

Dogs aren't supposed to put their paws on the table? That's news to me and it is also our experience just about every meal since we got Miles! Kids shouldn't talk back, but they do. Go know.
